Port William or Trebarwith Strand, take your pick, is a small hamlet not far from Tintagel. The beach looks out to Gull Rock, and offers sand at low water and lots of rock pools. There is parking nearby, and the beach has a surf school and life guard patrol during the summer months. The pub and a few shops are all that disturb nature here.
The Port William Inn is dramatically sited under the cliffs and looking out over Trebarwith Strand. The tables on the outside terrace enable you to take in the views if the weather is good. I cannot recommend the food here, but the beer is fine. Cornwall coast path runs past its door.
Padi Burt, the acerbic Telegraph writer stayed here once and was not too keen on the food "The food's not what we thought it would be - it's worse."
